Washington Metro Completes Yellow Line Rehabilitation

The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (Metro) has announced that the Yellow Line will reopen on 7 May following the completion of rehabilitation work on the tunnel and bridge between Pentagon and L’Enfant Plaza stations. This eight-month project has focussed on safety-critical repairs, including mitigating water intrusion and replacing ageing bridge bearings and expansion joints. The fire suppression system on the 3,000-foot bridge has also been upgraded and miles of critical communications cables have been replaced. Upon its reopening, the Yellow Line will provide a reliable and convenient connection across the Potomac River between Virginia and Washington DC. Initially, trains will run every 8 minutes on weekdays and every 12 minutes on weekends between Huntington and Mt Vernon Square.
