Construction work on later phases of HS3 will now be delayed by tear years due to soaring inflation on the project. This was announced in a written statement to the house of commons in which Mark Harper officially confirmed the reports of a slowing down. Harper said that headwinds stemming from the Russian invasion of Ukraine as well as the post-covid supply chain disruption had impacted the department’s capital projects programme with some schemes including this one being said to now take longer than expected. The cost currently being reported for the first phase of the route is now a staggering 71 billion.
