As of March 2023, global temperatures are 1.1 degrees celcius above the preindustrial periods. With the rise of this temperature also comes the rise in concentration of CO2 in our air, with the current concentration being higher than it has been for over 1 million years. The CBO released a report on the emissions of the transport sector. This report stated that in the United States the largest sources of emissions of carbon dioxide is the transportation sector, with them responsible for 38% of all CO2 emissions. This incredible number further supports how herculean the task of decarbonization will be and gives us questions about how long it will actually take, how much it will actually cost and is the complete decarbonization of the transport sector even possible?
